Visiting the Monastery

Manasija Monastery is open to visitors every day, in the summer season (from the beginning of April to the end of October) from 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., and in the winter season (from the beginning of November to the end of March) from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Services are held in the monastery daily; on church feasts and on Sundays the Holy Liturgy begins at 9:00 a.m. On great feasts, such as Christmas, Pascha and Pentecost (Holy Trinity), as well as during Great Lent, the schedule of services is somewhat different.

How to Get to Manasija?

Manasija Monastery, situated on a hill on the right bank of the Resava River, is about 3 kilometers from the center of Despotovac, heading northwest. Manasija is about 140 kilometers from Belgrade, about 30 kilometers from Svilajnac, about 55 kilometers from Žagubica, and somewhere around 50 kilometers from Petrovac na Mlavi.

The Monastery Gift Shop

At Manasija Monastery, beside the entrance to the monastery courtyard, there is the monastery gift shop. In this shop, pilgrims and visitors to the monastery can buy books, that is, spiritual and church literature (Holy Scripture, prayer books, works of the Holy Fathers, ...), as well as basic literature about the monastery itself, postcards and calendars. The monastery shop is not only a bookstore, so one can also find in it articles that the faithful use to nurture their piety, customary in an Orthodox home, such as holy icons and crosses, as well as prayer ropes, censers, vigil lamps, incense, charcoal and candles. In the shop one can also find pendants, jewelry, and then homemade products such as juices and teas, cheeses, beer, rakija, lard and honey.
